Some 70% of the respondents from more than 1,100 US organizations say they are active users of ITAM platforms. The use of ITAM software is widespread, but it has not reached 100% of ITAD professionals, as many still manage asset end-of-life without the proper tracking tools. Among those who do utilize ITAM software, 86% say the ITAD function is integrated in their that platform. 12% admit not integrating ITAD in their ITAM platform. 3% say they are unaware of such cross-platform integration.
It is intuitive that the use of ITAM software is recommended when integrating your ITAD operation. Such integration would not only provide you with the ability to track your ITAD program using accepted standards and metrics, but ITAD can be an integral part of the broader IT asset management domain when devices and IT equipment are tracked from cradle to grave.
Obviously there is no shortage of excellent software. ServiceNow IT Asset Management is generally known to be the market leader in terms of its broad market penetration. But there is also a plethora of platforms, from Ivanti and ManageEngine to Cherwell and Snow. Organizations can even build their own ITAM program. There are advantages and challenges in doing so, in particular regarding flexibility and security, on the positive side, and on development cost and maintenance on the negative side.
However, regardless of the platform you select, integrating ITAD is an important part of ensuring compliance and operational efficiency.
